For some people, the idea of a dream job is one they have created for themselves.\u00a0Something conceived\u00a0from their own hard work and sheer imagination. But starting your own business and being your own boss can be problematic and, if you’re not careful,\u00a0the dream can soon turn into a nightmare. So, how do you dodge the pitfalls and build the foundations\u00a0of a successful startup<\/a>?\u00a0We spoke to EU alumni Joad Lopez, Pau Fern\u00e1ndez and Ricardo G\u00f3mez, who\u00a0gave some valuable tips\u00a0on\u00a0how to\u00a0become an outstanding\u00a0entrepreneur.<\/p>\n

Do your research<\/h2>\n

First things\u00a0first, you need to have a plan of action. As the old saying goes: ‘Fail to prepare \u2013 prepare to fail’. Before you launch your business, have\u00a0a clear idea of what you want to do and where you want to go.\u00a0CEO and co-founder of eyescream and friends, Joad Lopez, an EU\u00a0BBA alumnus says:<\/p>\n

“Do your research, make sure you innovate and\u00a0make sure you come up with a concept, a product or a service that really captivates people’s minds.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Get out there<\/h2>\n

Pau Fern\u00e1ndez, head of corporate development at\u00a0Itnig and\u00a0EU BBA alumnus, believes that there’s no better way to learn than from experience. Get an understanding of\u00a0what it takes to be a modern entrepreneur\u00a0by working for someone else first. This way you’ll\u00a0learn the ropes,\u00a0picking up some smart tips\u00a0and honing your ability to\u00a0recognize potential problems. All this\u00a0before you jump in at the deep end. Fern\u00e1ndez says:<\/p>\n

“For students who want to start their own business, I would advise them to definitely\u00a0work for an existing startup. There they can meet all the difficulties that you cannot find in books or online.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Trust in yourself<\/h2>\n

Ricardo G\u00f3mez, EU MBA alumnus,\u00a0thinks self belief and a willingess to take a risk\u00a0are crucial.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s really important to trust in yourself. Understand that whatever comes to your mind comes because of something.\u00a0 You should give it a chance.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
