This year the MWC (Mobile World Congress) Barcelona <\/a>will be celebrating its 20th anniversary. Over the years, the event has transformed from a phone trade show into an important global tech summit.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s become an unmissable event for business leaders and tech entrepreneurs, emphasizing the importance of the Mediterranean city on the world stage when it comes to technology, business and innovation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is MWC?<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Every year, the world\u2019s top tech innovators and industry leaders gather in Barcelona for MWC<\/a> (previously Mobile World Congress). This exciting\u00a0event has, over the years,\u00a0become the world’s leading showcase for the technologies shaping the future of communication.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MWC is where tech trends are predicted, debated and kickstarted. It\u2019s where Google\u2019s Eric Schmidt made the prophetic prediction that everyone would one day carry a \u201csuper-computer in their pocket\u201d and where Mark Zuckerberg outlined Facebook’s vision for the future of social interaction. It\u2019s also where new, cutting-edge devices have been unveiled and demonstrated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference has taken place in Barcelona every year since 2006 and will be returning until at least 2030, cementing the city\u2019s reputation as a global technology hub where innovation thrives.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When is MWC?<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This year, the event will take place between the 2nd and 5th<\/sup> of March. Over 109,000 attendees are expected to gather at the Fira de Barcelona for four days of industry talks, keynotes, networking sessions, conferences, insight sessions and product demonstrations.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will bring together around 2,900 companies and is projected to generate a record economic impact of \u20ac585 million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the theme of MWC 2026?<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

MWC has a reputation as a forum where foundational tech shifts are debated by prominent thought leaders. This year\u2019s headline theme, \u2018The IQ Era,\u2019 <\/strong>covers six thought leadership themes focused on how human insight and artificial intelligence can unite to create positive outcomes for business and society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over a packed four days, the conference will highlight the practical applications of AI, robotics and the latest advances in connectivity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the highlights will be the New Frontiers space, dedicated to emerging technologies including AI-driven robotics, quantum computing and non-terrestrial communications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hall 2 will also host the immersive \u201cAirport of the Future\u201d experience, showcasing how airports and the wider aviation sector are being transformed by digital innovation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who will be attending MWC 2026?<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The program will feature top international speakers, including Gwynne Shotwell, President of SpaceX, and Michael Nicolls, Vice President of Engineering at Starlink, alongside other prominent figures from the digital and telecommunications sectors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other notable speakers include Aaron Paul, the actor best known for his role in Breaking Bad, who is a passionate digital-wellbeing advocate, and British astronaut Tim Peake. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, many of our students from EU Barcelona<\/a> will also be attending to hear key insights from these prominent thought leaders, to learn about cutting-edge technologies and to network with attendees.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference is an unmissable opportunity for EU students to expand on what they learn in the classroom, particularly in programs such as Artificial Intelligence for Business<\/a>, Digital Business Design and Innovation<\/a>, and our Master in Innovation and Entrepreneurship<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as attracting the world\u2019s biggest technology companies, MWC is also a magnet for startups and entrepreneurs. Running in parallel with the main event will be 4YFN, the leading platform connecting budding startups, entrepreneurs and investors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the second consecutive year, the event will also coincide with Talent Arena, which will feature an expanded program aimed at strengthening the city\u2019s digital talent base. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
